5 Year Check Up

Today Madison had her 5 year well check with Dr. Hieber and she is doing great.  They did a hearing/vision test and developmentally she is right where she needs to be.  She still has a slight "innocent" heart murmur but since we had it checked out last year he wasn't worried about it all.  She should outgrow this with age.  The check up went fabulously until Dr. Hieber told her she needed a finger prick and then panic struck her face.  She hates shots so she immediately teared up but she waited until he left the room to wrap her arms around me as tight as she could and start crying.  I literally had to pry open her hand because she was not going to give up her thumb with out a fight!  It was over in a flash and I don't think it was as bad as she thought but she still let me know about it.  Here are her 5 year stats:

Weight: 40 lbs              53rd percentile

Height: 43 1/4 inches    67th percentile

Since Christmas Madison has really been interested in sounding out words and reading.  Every week she brings home a new sheet with common "sight words."  I have to admit that at first we really didn't practice much so when I sat down with her in December to go over them all I was really surprised at how many she knew!  Mrs. Brandt gave her a glowing report in January and she too was impressed by how quickly and easily she has learned all her words.  Recently she has been reading BOB books and sounding out anything she sees.  Hopefully she will always love to read.  I register her for kindergarten tomorrow and I know she is definitely ready.  I'm just not sure I am!

After our check up we went to a hatch day party for King George.  King George is a rooster who lives at the True Value hardware store in Lake Highlands by my parents house.  He is the store's mascot and is loved by many in the neighborhood.  Madison loves to go visit him and the other baby chicks and ducks in the store.  King George had cupcakes and crafts for the little ones.  This rooster knows how to party!

One Last Hurrah

Last Sunday we went to The Magic Time Machine for one last birthday hurrrah with Gram and Granddad and Jill and Jeff.  The kids loved it and Madison has been asking to go back ever since.  Our waiter was Captain Jack Sparrow and we had fun walking around checking out all the other fun characters like Princess Merida!  There are so many cool booths in this place.

Treats for My Sweet!

To finish up "birthday week," I made rice crispy treats and took them to Madison's class during lunch today.  And they weren't just any rice crispy treats.  They were covered in pink frosting and sprinkles of course!  Emma tagged along and thought she was hot stuff eating with the big kids in the lunch room.  Madison was super excited to see us and we really enjoyed hanging out with her and her friends at school.

Happy Birthday To You!

Today Madison is 5!  Holy Moly how is that possible?  Mimi, that brick isn't working!  Happy, Happy Birthday to the sweetest 5 year old I know.  Madison, you are one of a kind and we love you so, so much!

The birthday girl requested a picnic in the dinning room this morning, just like last year, so a pancake picnic we had.

Every time the phone rang today it was for Madison and she very much enjoyed all the birthday wishes!

She had a play date with a few girls in her class this morning.  When I picked her up they were doing hair styles on American girl dolls so she was in heaven.

 One of her favorite things to do are mosaic crafts so she was thrilled when a little boy in her class gave her a butterfly, mosaic jewelry box.  It's going to take a little while to finish but she put in a good hour today when we got home.

Daddy left work a little bit early so the birthday girl could open a couple surprises  from us before going to dinner.

Great Wolf Lodge has some decent deals right now so we are going to check it out in a couple weeks!

A few of her "friends" had front row seats for present time.  Don't worry ladies, none of you will be replaced!

Madison's most favorite restaurant is Rosa's so that was her dinner choice.  I'm not sure what she likes the best, the yummy main course or the delicious sopapillas we get afterwards.
She would very much like an industrial size tortilla maker....anyone???

I'm taking birthday treats for her class tomorrow so the party continues.  Clearly we drag birthdays out as long as possible around here.  You are only 5 once!

Family Celebration

After the birthday party Chase's family and my parents came over to give Madison their gifts and have some munchies.  Since I made a fancy cake last year I decided to try my luck again and attempt a butterfly cake.  Pinterest was very helpful and had directions on how to cut the cake to form the body and wings.  It was actually pretty easy to make but frosting it was a different story.  All in all the cake turned out really cute and I was happy with my butterfly creation.  And Madison loved it so that's all that matters!

Madison is super into Monster High dolls right now.  She got one at her party last year from a little boy in her class and  has been hooked ever since.  At first she didn't know what to think about it because they are kind of scary looking, but it ended up being one of her favorite things.  Probably because they are so different from all the cutesy Disney princesses we have.  

Pepper!  This cute pup is from the American Girl store and has now joined Madison's bedtime buddy collection.  Last night she put him right on her pillow so she could teach him how to sleep.

 

A big girl bike!  Madison is definitely my child because she has the hardest time making decisions.  It was tough to narrow down which bike she wanted but she finally settled on this one.  Probably because it has butterflies on it so it matched her theme.  We will certainly see her coming!

After presents we had cake (again) but she gave us strict instructions not to sing.  So on the count of 3 we all shouted, "Happy Birthday!" and she blew out her candles.

If you ask Madison what her favorite colors are right now she will tell you pink, purple, and turquoise.  So we had turquoise cake with pink icing and purple accents.  Perfect!

In traditional party day fashion, the weather was not the best.  It was cold and windy which led to a short test drive outside.  So, it was back indoors to circle through the living room, kitchen, and dining room.  She's probably made "the loop" 100 times since yesterday.

After we rested from quite an exciting afternoon, Madison wanted to dig into the gifts from her sweet friends.

And then it was back to bike riding.  Emma wanted some wheels too so she rolled Madison's new Frozen case around.  Clearly pants were optional.

Before bed, Chase tore into Madison's Nerf Rebelle gun.  I think he wanted to play with it just as much as she did.

I told Madison to be careful with it because it's pretty powerful and she said, "I'm pretending the door is an animal we can eat."  What, where did that come from?  Proud daddy moment, Chase loved that comment.  

What a jam packed, super fun day.  And it's not even your real birthday yet.  You are certainly loved Maddie Moo!  =)

Party Day!

Today was Madison's 5th birthday party and it was a PAR TAY!  I was a little worried about having it on the back end of Spring break but it sure didn't bother anyone.  We ended up with 27 kiddos which is probably our biggest turn out ever!  Madison had the time of her life and I think all her friends had fun too.  ASI does such an awesome job and certainly keeps the kids entertained.  Thank you, thank you, thank you to all our friends and family for coming to play and celebrate our big girl!

Party hair!

We are dollar store fabulous over here so most of her supplies came from there (plates, napkins, birthday glitter boxes, and balloons).  I was quite happy with their selection.  Who says thrifty can't be cute??? 

I have an amazing cake lady who made Madison's cupcakes and even delivered them.  They turned out so cute and the glitter frosting was a big hit.

Emma was hilarious and loved the party.  She did a great job at keeping up with the big kids.

We love coach Darian, she is super fun, energetic, and LOUD!  You have to be to wrangle all these kiddos.  Madison started out in her class at the very beginning and has moved up a few times since.  Darian did our party last year too and told me she was looking forward to Madison's party all week because last year's party was so cute.  Way to score some mom points!
